Corporate meets Startup - How to collaborate to make digital transformation a success!

For a successful digital transformation, real estate businesses need to not just procure services from but collaborate closely with innovative startups. They need to shift their thinking as IT as a cost on the side to IT as a cost in the core. To learn more about how to achieve this transition, and the importance of an innovation cluster to drive collaboration and new solutions across the entire value chain, join a conversation between Daniel Kjorberg Siraj, CEO of Norwegian construction giant OBOS, and Havard Haukeland, CEO of Spacemaker, an AI platform for the early stages of real-estate development.

Havard Haukeland
CEO & Co-Founder - Spacemaker

After working as an architect for several years and being engulfed in construction and urban planning processes that haven’t changed much over the last century, Håvard co-founded Spacemaker in 2016 together with Carl Christensen, CTO and Anders Kvale, Chairman. Spacemaker evolved from Havard’s frustration of working with non-digital methods and limited decision support in a “blank sheet” industry where little codification & learning across portfolios was happening. His passion for all things architecture runs deep. Over the last 10 years, Havard completely renovated (from scratch) two apartments and two houses…..but obviously, that was before Spacemaker came into his life. Growing the company keeps him as busy as raising his two sons together with his wife.

Daniel Kjorberg Siraj
CEO - OBOS

Daniel Kjørberg Siraj was appointed CEO in 2015. He has extensive experience through various positions in OBOS, the Nordics' largest cooperative building association. With a background in politics, he previously worked for the Christian People's Party in the Oslo Municipality. He has a law degree (cand.jur.) from the University of Oslo.

About OBOS:

OBOS is a leading residential and commercial developer in both Norway and Sweden. It has developed and build more than 100.000 homes and presently has over 5100 homes under construction with a land bank of over 44.000 units. As an urban developer, OBOS also owns and develops more than 660.000 m2 of commercial property.  OBOS manages 240.000 homes and has its own bank with a gross loan portfolio of over 40 billion NOK. In addition, OBOS is a strategic investor in the construction industry, being the main investor in listed companies Veidekke ASA, AF Gruppen ASA (both Oslo) and JM AB (both Stockholm) with a total value of 8,7 billion NOK.

OBOS was established by creative entrepreneurs in 1929, who saw the need for a new way of solving the housing crisis for the working class in Norway. They found a new business model to conduct residential development, property management and financial operations – the co-operative building society model.  OBOS is now owned by more than 473.000 members and has 2600 employees. OBOS had an annual turnover of over 14,9 billion NOK in 2019 and a profit of 3,7 billion NOK. It´s value adjusted equity stands at 45,1 billion NOK in 2019.

OBOS' vision is to build the society of tomorrow and fulfill housing dreams. In this context, the company allocates significant resources to innovation and furthering the development of existing businesses. It also invests in start ups with Spacemaker AI, Otovo and Catenda as key investments.
